Work with Tim HERO.png

HEY THERE! I’M TIM.

I'm a UX Strategist and NN/g Guest Speaker — which means when we work together, you're getting advice from someone who spent years inside the world's leading UX consultancy, doing the actual work you're trying to break into.

I've coached career switchers from a wide range of backgrounds into UX research and strategy roles. I know how to help you connect what you already know to what UX teams are actually looking for — and tell that story in a way that gets you interviews.

How I Got Here

My path into UX wasn't obvious. It went through business school, consulting, a failed startup, and a pandemic before it finally clicked.

If your background feels messy or hard to explain, you're in the right place.

My not-so-straight path into UX

IMG_3220.jpg

2013

Business student in Germany

Started studying business at the University of Cologne. I was on a “good” path, but I had no idea what I wanted to do after college.

DEFAULT PATH

IMG_1546.JPG

2017

Out in the world

Traveled across 15 countries. Saw how differently people think, behave, and make decisions. That’s where I developed a lot of empathy.

EARLY SIGNALS

DSC03823.jpg

2018-2020

MBA → and still unsure

Moved to the U.S. for my MBA. Tried consulting, tried sales. Nothing really clicked. Quit my sales job within months.

SEARCHING

2020

Rock bottom (career-wise)

Graduated into COVID. Couldn’t find a job. Drove Lyft. Worked in a restaurant in Miami. No clear direction, no idea where to go.

STUCK

2021

Trying to build something

Started an IT outsourcing business with a friend. Learned about the industry and immersed myself in the tech community — but failed within a few months.

EXPERIMENTING

2021

Discovered UX — and went all in

Came across UX/UI design and immediately knew THIS IS IT. Enrolled in a 3-month bootcamp at BrainStation and treated it like a full-time job.

THE SHIFT

IMG_3189.JPG

2022

No experience. No shortcuts.

Took every project I could get — unpaid, small, messy. Nonprofits, local clients, hackathons. Focused on building real work and real skills fast.

EARNING IT

2022

Cracked the story

Applied to hundreds of companies without getting any responses. Realized breaking in wasn’t just about skills — it was about positioning. Learned how to connect my past experience to UX in a way that made sense to hiring managers.

THE UNLOCK

2022

Landed Nielsen Norman Group (NN/g)

Got hired as 1 of 4 people out of 1,000+ applicants at THE UX company out there. Not because I had the most experience — but because I knew how to tell my story and show my value.

BREAKTHROUGH

20221017 dc-0115 copy.JPG

2023–2025

From beginner to expert

Published 40+ UX articles and videos. Led international research studies. Trained 4,000+ professionals at companies like Uber, Accenture, and American Express.

LEVELING UP

2025

Back to building

Moved back into freelancing. Worked with startups and companies on AI products, workflows, and strategy.

EXPANDING

2025

Innovation consultancy

Joined Peer Inside. Working with clients to drive innovation by building new products and rethinking systems.

BUILDING

Now

Coaching. Teaching. Creating.

Helping companies build better products — and helping others break into UX without wasting years figuring it out alone.

GROWING

Is This You?

You're changing careers and UX is where you want to land. You're motivated — but overwhelmed by where to start, unsure if your background transfers, and tired of spinning your wheels on your own.

Sound familiar? That's exactly who this program is built for.

You're ready to break into UX design.

If you're switching careers and setting your sights on UX or UI design, this is your program. Together, we'll go from "I think I want to do this" to a portfolio, a brand, and a job search strategy that actually works.

DSC01787.jpeg

what we'll work on together

Eight sections covering every part of the job search — so you're not piecing together advice from YouTube, Reddit, and strangers on LinkedIn.

  • You already have more UX-relevant skills than you think. This section helps you take stock of what you actually bring to the table — so you can stop second-guessing yourself and start building from a solid foundation.

  • Figure out which roles are realistic, which are a stretch, and where your background gives you an edge. You'll leave with a clear picture of where to focus your search and why.

  • Getting noticed is less about listing what you've done and more about framing it for the role you want. You'll build a resume and cover letter that connect your experience to what hiring managers are actually looking for.

  • Most hiring managers look you up before they ever respond to an application. This section gets your profile working for you — showing up in searches, telling the right story, making a strong first impression before you've said a word.

  • Your portfolio's about page is often the first thing a hiring manager reads. This section helps you write it — and define the personal brand that ties your whole application together.

  • No design experience? No problem. You'll learn how to build case studies from real projects — even if they're small, self-initiated, or from a completely different field.

  • Most jobs aren't filled through job boards. This section gives you a practical strategy for building relationships, reaching out to the right people, and getting on hiring managers' radar before a role is even posted.

  • Landing your first official design project can feel like a catch-22 — you need experience to get experience. This section breaks that cycle with practical ways to build your portfolio with real, credible work.

BOOK A COACHING CALL

what's Included

One coach. One program. A clear path from where you are now to a UX role you actually want.

DSC01705.jpg
  • One 1:1 call per section — book it yourself once you've finished the material. No scheduled pressure, no awkward "did you do the homework" moments.

  • Workbook-based lessons covering everything from clarifying your direction to building your portfolio, LinkedIn, and job search strategy. One section every 1–2 weeks; most students finish in 10–12 weeks.

  • Resume templates, LinkedIn frameworks, portfolio guidance, outreach scripts, and more — ready to use, not starting from scratch.

  • You're not working with a career generalist. Denisa and Tim are active designers who know what hiring managers are actually looking for right now.
