About HERO.png

You already know breaking into UX is hard.

Not hard like "you need to study more" hard. Hard like: you're putting in the hours, you're doing everything you're supposed to — and it's still not clicking.

We both figured it out the slow way. Tim came from business and consulting. Denisa from engineering. Neither of us had the "right" background.

It's not you.

Both of us got there anyway. What we learned is what Pivot is built around: your background isn't a liability — it's the thing that makes you interesting to the right employer.

how pivot started

Fall 2025

A familiar story

Tim came across Denisa on LinkedIn. Her background looked familiar — a career switch into UX from somewhere unexpected, now focused on helping others make the same move.

THE FIND

Fall 2025

The first conversation

They got on a call — Denisa in San Francisco, Tim in Miami — and mostly just talked about their own journeys. How they'd each gotten into UX, what the transition had actually been like.

A shared dream

Tim mentioned he'd always wanted to do something more like what Denisa was building. Denisa encouraged him to go for it.

THE IDEA

What if we combined?

Some time later, Denisa had a different idea: instead of each building something independently, what if they combined? Tim was in. Pivot went from one coach to two.

BUILDING PIVOT

Most UX career advice misses people in the middle.

Motivated, experienced in other fields, smart enough to know that "just build your portfolio" isn't a complete answer.

Pivot is built around two things we both discovered independently:

Your background is an asset, not an obstacle.

Coming from healthcare, engineering, education, business — or anywhere else — doesn't mean you're missing UX skills. It means you bring a perspective that most UX practitioners don't have. The challenge isn't acquiring that perspective. It's learning to frame it in a way hiring managers can see.

It's hard, but it's not impossible.

The job market is tough. Breaking in without a traditional UX background takes more than just doing the work — it takes a clear story, the right materials, and a strategy. That's learnable. We've both done it. We've coached others through it. And we know what actually makes the difference.

Ready to find your coach?

You don't have to figure this out alone. When you're ready to stop spinning your wheels and start making real progress, we're here.

Meet the

Coaches

We've both been where you are — staring at a career pivot, wondering if you have what it takes, not sure where to start. That's exactly why we built Pivot.
